Founded in 2009 by the San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE), Teachers College of San Joaquin (TCSJ) is the only regionally accredited institution of higher education that is a department within a county office of education. TCSJ provides a variety of options for those who wish to pursue a career in the field of education: Teaching and Administrative Service Credentials, Induction (teaching and administrative), six Master in Education concentrations, as well as non-degree programs. The college serves over 1300 students who work across 60 districts in an 8 county region of California.

Our Mission: To develop a workforce of teachers and school leaders who are comfortable with collaboration, understand the need to prepare students for both work and higher education and have the skills to develop, implement and sustain innovative educational ideas.

TCSJ exemplifies the notion of learning opportunities that are rigorous, provide relevance, are relationship-driven and incorporate reflection for professional growth.

TCSJ Self-Paced Courses

The Professional Learning Center at Teachers College of San Joaquin offers 100% online, self-paced professional development courses that are open to any Pre K-12 teacher or administrator nationwide. A book purchase is required for the book study courses. You do not have to be admitted to the university to take PD courses. Our PD units are semester graduate (non-degree) units from TCSJ, a regionally accredited university. We do not have a limit on number of credits you can take in one semester, but please check with your state/ district/ school on limits and acceptance of our units. TCSJ's professional development courses are transcribed as graduate level semester units and are equivalent to 15 clock hours or .5 semester hours (in states where semester hours require 30 contact hours) or 15 PDPs/PDUs or 1.5 CEUs/15 OPI renewal units.

"Wow, what an informative seminar about Positive Teacher Language. What I will instantly implement into my classroom is the help with negative self talk. Also, the piece on asset-based assessment versus deficit-based assessment was very eye-opening. Thank you for helping me take my classroom in a new direction."

Testimonial

"This was a great course filled with lots of good strategies and information. Some things I realize I had been doing without really knowing it, maybe because of my own experiences with teachers I had. This was a great PD and I appreciate the opportunity to learn!

Our Focus

TCSJ focuses on the "four R's" of Rigor, Relevance, Relationship, and Reflection. These apply both to the way in which we design curriculum and provide service to TCSJ students, as well as what we want our students to apply to their own work as a result of their study here at Teachers College of San Joaquin.
